Novel Peripheral IV Catheter: Telesso Technologies Wins Popular Science Invention Award

Telesso Technologies Limited (ASX: TEO), a global healthcare company, has announced the FDA-approved guide wire-assisted peripheral IV catheter it is developing with Vascular Pathways, Inc., has been honored with the Popular Science Invention Award. "Telesso is pleased to receive another exciting external validation of this innovative device that may revolutionize peripheral IV placement," said Telesso"s CEO Nelson K. Stacks. "Attempts to start an IV frequently fail, which is frustrating for clinicians, painful for patients and costly to the health care system. The new guide-wire assisted peripheral IV catheter uses a practical design to improve the ability for clinicians to get it right the first time, creating efficiency, enhancing safety, reducing costs, and avoiding the need for re-sticks." A post-market trial is currently comparing patients treated with Telesso"s catheter to the industry"s gold standard device for peripheral IV placement. Data review is expected in Q2-Q3 2009. About the Guide Wire-Assisted Peripheral IV Cathete A peripheral vein is the most common site for insertion of a catheter for short-term diagnostic or therapeutic use. The catheter is placed into the peripheral vein in the arm and is typically passed up inside the vein to a length of 2-3 inches. Telesso"s uniquely-designed guide wire-assisted peripheral IV catheter device uses a first-in-class retractable nitinol guide wire system that is believed to enable easier IV access, reduce common safety risks, significantly lessen patient pain and discomfort, and provide cost savings to facilities by lowering administrative costs associated with failed IV starts.
