Washington Post Opinion Piece Examines O'Reilly's Role In Tiller Murder
Fox News host Bill O"Reilly is "being incredibly disingenuous when he claims that he bears no responsibility for others" actions in the killing of Dr. George Tiller on Sunday," Mary Alice Carr, vice president of communications for NARAL Pro-Choice New York, writes in a Washington Post opinion piece. "When you tell an audience of millions over and over again that someone is an executioner, you cannot feign surprise when someone executes that person," she continues, adding that "O"Reilly knew that people wanted Tiller dead, and he knew full well that many of those people were avid viewers of his show. Still, he fanned the flames."Carr writes that she has pledged to no longer appear on O"Reilly"s show because she realized that her appearance "would only legitimize his speech and that no good would come of my efforts." She adds that when a producer called her to come on the show following Tiller"s murder, she responded that, among other things, the community of abortion-rights supporters "hold[s] O"Reilly responsible for helping to create a climate in which hate was allowed to fester."Carr notes that following Tiller"s death, "O"Reilly had the opportunity to apologize for his words" and "say that this tragic outcome was something about which he felt sorry," but "[h]e didn"t." She adds, "When restraint and perspective were called for, he fanned the flames higher." Carr concludes that she will not appear on O"Reilly"s show because "if the murder of a man in a house of worship wasn"t enough to make Bill O"Reilly repent, what hope d[o] I have?" (Carr, Washington Post, 6/4).

Confirmation Of High Efficacy Of HPV Vaccine Against Precancerous Cervical Lesions And Protective Effect Of Vaccination Programs
The findings of the PATRICIA study are reported in an article Online First and in a future edition of The Lancet. It shows that the HPV-16/18 AS04-adjuvanted vaccine (GlaxoSmithKline) has high efficacy against the precancerous cervical lesions that can eventually lead to cervical cancer. There is confirmation that the vaccine also shows cross-protective efficacy against other oncogenic (that cause cancer) Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types closely related to HPV-16/18. In addition, it also shows efficacy in the cohorts relevant to universal mass vaccination and catch-up programs. The article is written by Dr Jorma Paavonen, of the University of Helsinki, Finland, and collaborators.

Autism-Mitochondrial Study: Participants Needed

ASD Centers, LLC has expanded the clinical study started in the Dallas, Texas area to include other locations. This study is designed to examine mitochondrial dysfunction and how L-carnitine supplementation affects behavior, cognition, muscle strength, and health/physical traits in those with a diagnosed autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Study Background L-carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid required in energy metabolism. Carnitine is essential for the utilization of fatty acids to produce the energy needed to sustain cell function. Carnitine deficiency is commonly found in children who have a diagnosis in the autism spectrum. Mitochondrial dysfunction is also often found in those diagnosed with autism. And carnitine has been used to treat mitochondrial dysfunction. Design of This Study Participants: Thirty children 3-10 years of age (they can be older than ten if they weigh less than 100 pounds), who have a diagnosis of autism, PDD-NOS, or other ASD or pervasive developmental disorder. They cannot have had carnitine-based therapy, or methionine or lysine supplementation, or seizures. Study: Two-thirds of the children that participate in the study will receive treatment and one-third will receive a placebo. The study period is 3 months. Blood work and muscle strength testing will be done before and after treatment. The product is citrus flavored and taken orally. There will be no costs to the participants. For more information or if you would like to participate, please contact the location nearest you: - Janet Kern, Coordinating Director, at: 214-592-6600 [Genetic Consultants of Dallas: 408 N.
